Bargain of the week: Burberry petal clutch lookalike from Accessorize

The petal, starting at £795, Burberry; Daisy cutout across body bag, £19, Accessorize
I've been watching those Accessorize bags for ages, wondering when someone else is going to pick up on the fact that they're a complete and utter bargain. Accessorize can get quite pricey at times but each of these daisy cutout bags is only £19. Factor in that they're a neat way to pay homage to Burberry's spring/summer staple and they become impossible to leave on the shelf.

Must read beauty tips from a Japonesque make up expert

A few weeks back I went to a brilliant little event at John Lewis in Cardiff, introducing lots of lovely new brands and products they've got in store. We heard from Liz Earle, Miss Selfridge (find out how the Selfy ladies are working this summer's biggest trends in this post) and had an absolutely amazing presentation from Japonesque.

Japonesque is a bit of a new brand for me: I'd heard of them but never really investigated what they were doing. So, boy was I surprised by what I heard! Not only are they a bargain brand for the high product quality - Luminous Foundation retails at around £24 - but they are behind a lot of big name favourite brushes too. Japonesque make private label brushes for Illamasqua, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel, AND their own name brushes are used on the set of True Blood *swoon*. So when you buy their reasonably priced brush range, you actually get top brand quality.

Kim from Japonesque has worked with The Saturdays, Tulisa and David Beckham (who apparently was sweet enough to make her a JD and coke!) so it's safe to say she really does know her stuff. And her number one priority when it comes to making up a good face is using good brushes. You can buy the best product out there but without a good tool to apply it, you're fighting a losing battle.

I've put together some more of Kim's invaluable advice on how to get the best from your beauty drawer below. I'm slowly trying out every single one and have to say, as a bit of beauty novice, it's redefined my routine!

Using a slanted brush, like the brand's 150 degree square design is best. Start from the centre of your face and blend outwards, applying all over your face, including your eyelids.

BotW: I spy some beauty freebies with InStyle

The May issue of InStyle UK has the best ever freebie with it - an eyelash curler from Eyeko! I haven't picked mine up yet but if you just do a quick google for reviews of this tool, you'll see the amount of positive feedback it has had.

And that's not all either. The magazine has also bagged 20% off the rest of the Eyeko range too. Just visit before 1 May 2014, fill up your basket and enter INSTYLE20 at the checkout to claim the discount. I tried out the brand's Skinny liquid eyeliner in black over the weekend and was so impressed. It does everything it says on the tin - doesn't smudge, looks amazing and really defines your eyes. The shape of the pen makes it easy to hold and the nib glides across your lid. Considering it would be under a tenner using this code, it's going to be hard to ignore this little treat!
Eyeko discount from 4 April until 1 May 2014. Browse the full range at, and enter INSTYLE20

How to work the 3 biggest summer trends

A few weeks ago, I went to a little event from the ladies from Miss Selfridge at John Lewis Cardiff, on how to work the biggest summer trends using key pieces from their latest range. For 2014, Miss Selfridge have taken a different approach to design, making sure we fill our wardrobes with more versatile clothes which look just as great in the office as they do at dinner.

Vibrant neons

Neon has been hanging on for a good while now, but this season it is less about the shocking yellow and more about working warmer, more vibrant shades. Your best bet is to go for a blank palette of colours, working bold blocks with stand out accessories - like those blue shoes in the photos above!

1. Pink sleeve dress, £47; Yellow slubby jumper, £20; 3. Orange fit and flare dress, £20, all Miss Selfridge at John Lewis
Modern monochrome

The monochrome range at Miss Selfridge offers more of an edgy take on this trend than other black and white styling has so far. But it doesn't all need to be about the grunge look - just add some pretty florals in to the mix to soften, or try out a strong edge with a tailored skort.

1. Jacquard textured shorts, £27; 2. Belted high waist skort, £34; 3. Daisy print shirt, £29, all Miss Selfridge at John Lewis
Pretty pastels

These delectable clothes make for real show off glamour. The embellished dresses are perfect for proms and spring weddings, and won't break the bank either! Pastels tend to verge on the super girly but garments like the blurred floral shirt (above and below middle) prove that you don't have to wear a big splash of lilac or mint to rock a pretty neutral.

1. Warrior embellished dress, £75; Blurred floral shirt, £30; 3. Matt and shine dress, £39, all Miss Selfridge at John Lewis

Reinvent your old favourite bag with a new twist

White scarf handle woven bag and Tan scarf handle woven bag, both £45, River Island
How cute are these River Island bags? They're so Hamptons chic - you can just imagine some socialite popping along to tennis then a lunch date sporting one of these totes.

My wardrobe is rammed with scarves and bags I just can't bear to part with but this lovely touch of styling is just what I need to make my totes look brand new again. I've teamed a little neckerchief with a plain satchel so far and am planning to experiment with a long silk scarf and a boxy shoulder bag to breathe some new life into old accessories.
