Introducing Ruby + Ed

One of the best things about living by the coast is that, by summer, the little boutiques are full of soft sea breeze colours and wispy dresses that will just float around you.

Cloud tee, £75; Ilya sea blue breeze dress, £120,
I think that's why I've fallen in style lust with Ruby + Ed. The brand was started in 2001 selling gorgeous slippers and has since expanded into uniquely designed clothes and accessories. The team prides themselves on making bespoke and considered styles which are easy to wear.

For SS13, Ruby + Ed have created a collection inspired by etheral visions for lazy summer days, remincising of faraway lands and times. Perfect for when the sunshine finally gets here!

Peppermint nails and pinky rings

I'm obsessed with mint green at the moment. There's something so delightfully, er, refreshing about the colour against the dull, dark skies.

The ring in this picture is another find from my Grandmother's old jewellery box. I'm not sure it was a pinky ring on her slender fingers but, like all pretty vintage trinkets, it sits beautifully however you wear it.

Bargain of the week: Ashish t-shirt at Primark

Beaded holy chic boyfriend t shirt, £5, Primark
Holy chic indeed! I say this far too often but I really do think this *actually* is the best bargain I've found to date. This cute beaded boyfriend tee from Primark is a dead ringer for Ashish's holy chic beaded top for Lulu & Co - with one HUGE difference: whereas the designer version was selling for £130 back last year, the Primark version is in store now for just a fiver.

Bargain of the week: Swedish Hasbeens' debutants at Office

Drum roll please! The only shoes you will need to buy this summer are out now. Swedish Hasbeens have launched a new range of deubtants - offering their trademark bohemian designs, skimping on price but not perfection.

Swedish Hasbeens Savvanah, £79, Office
Ok, ok, wooden shoes may not be to everyone's taste but I have four very good reasons why you should invest in these:

1. Smart but casual
You can wear these with a floaty top and shorts in the day and a maxi dress in the night, therefore saving on holiday luggage so you can pack, er, more shoes!

2. Vintage-esque
When will vintage go out fashion? Never. It's vintage. The timeless style of these gorgeous sandals will match any 50s/60s/70s summer ensemble for years to come.

3. They last forever
Well maybe not *forever* forever but I've had a pair since the H&M collaboration back at the start of 2011 and even after I've worn them to death, they're still looking pretty darn good.

4. It's a bargain!
If you're reading this post it's pretty clear you, like me, cannot say no to a little bit of style thrifty-ness. Yes, £60+ is still a bit pricy but they are half the price of their big sisters. So what are you waiting for? Snap these babies up!

Mix and match: how to add menswear to womenswear

Adding a piece of men’s clothing can be a great way to freshen up a look, completely transforming an outfit and giving new life to your wardrobe favourites. But getting the look right is tricky, especially if you’re used to a more feminine look. If you’re petite it can seem like a disaster waiting to happen.

The key to success with this look is all about achieving balance. Experiment with what works for you and your shape as well as what works with the wardrobe you already have. A great way to start is by picking up a bargain in a charity or secondhand shop, or even pinching something from a (stylish!) guy you know before investing in a menswear piece of your own.

Here’s some inspiration for incorporating a menswear item into your look using staples from Jack and Jones at House of Fraser.

Introducing Allium B

Phoebe, £110; Clara, £95; Susana, £125 - all from
There's no doubting it: I'm a dress girl. I own two pairs of trousers (three, if you count leggings - and I don't, although that's a topic for another post) and barely wear them. However, as much as I love flouncing about in pretty skirts and ballet pumps, it can get a bit same-y after a season of skater skirts and 50s styles. But new brand Allium B are about to reinvigorate my wardrobe.

Based in Brighton, the cute store has just celebrated its first year of selling gorgeous, retro feel, go-anywhere dresses. Every single one of Allium B's styles is super flattering and beautifully made - just what you need when you're getting sick of the high street.
Perfectly Parisian: Eloise, £90

Allium B was started by sisters Clare and Mary Burgess, who designed the range to make the kind of dresses they knew women were looking for: “Dresses that aren’t too young, too old, too short or too long. Most women don’t have time to waste, they want versatile flattering dresses that can be thrown on for an instant outfit and accessorised to create their own style.”

Having both built careers in buying for big names, Clare and Mary are the perfect women to create Allium B's "forever dresses".

"Our dresses come in natural fabrics, ranging from pure silk to Georgette, and take inspiration from vintage touches," say Clare and Mary. "We love beaded Peter Pan collars, intricate embroidery and lace, reworked into modern silhouettes. When deciding if a dress makes the final cut, we always ask ourselves ‘do we love it?’ If the answer’s yes, it’s in." And it's a big yes from me too ladies!
